NOTE: The sidewalk restrictions established by this ordinance do not apply to mobility devices used by individuals with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Federal ADA requirements supersede local ordinances, and the City will continue to accommodate the use of ADA-protected mobility devices.
The City of Marquette has enacted a new ordinance prohibiting the operation of bicycles, skateboards, and other human-powered or electric mobility devices on designated downtown sidewalks.
The ordinance applies to the following areas:
West Washington Street: Lakeshore Boulevard to Seventh Street
North Third Street: Fair Avenue to Baraga Avenue
South Front Street: Ridge Street to Baraga Avenue
The restriction includes both traditional and electric bicycles, electric and non-electric skateboards, and other wheeled mobility devices powered by human power or an electric motor of up to 750 watts.
