    Two decades ago, on June 1, 1984, Ray Nurmi opened Snowbound with 10,000 used books and a room full of kites. (Yes, kites - the kind you fly on the beach. I was surprised, too.) The books took up the front half of the building and the kites were in one room of the back, with a small apartment taking up the remaining space.
