2. HARLOW PARK
Occupying a typical city size block located on Washington Street between Seventh and Morgan Streets, Harlow Park is the site of the recently constructed Veteran's Memorial. Unlike many military memorials across the country, the new Marquette memorial doesn't honor a specific group of veterans, or battle or war, it commemorates all who served. The central memorial structure, an-etched glass rectangular map of the world is surrounded by benches, gardens and areas for contemplation. The memorial is about 75 feet long and 20 feet wide. It's laid out in three stages, starting with a south entrance leading to an area of reflection, where people can sit quietly. A short path leads to an area of freedom, where the flagpole is located. More than 890 bricks have been installed bearing the names of area veterans dating back to the Revolutionary War. This park has been adopted by the American Legion Post 44.
