Marquette Blueberry Festival
This summer's unseasonable weather held true for the 2009 Blueberry Festival on July 24th; however, the intermittent rain did not dampen the spirits of those attending and vending at the event. By all counts, downtown businesses reported increased sales over last year's event. According to Susan Brian, Farmer Q's Market sold over 1,000 pounds of blueberries before running out of the festival's featured fruit at 2:30pm!
The expanded Blueberry Dance Festival was a tremendous success as well, according to Nikke Nason, of the Marquette Arts & Culture Center. Over 900 participants took part in activities through workshops, performances and audience membership during the three day event.
